Today’s show is brought to you by Brandon Dawson, CEO and Founder of Audigy Group, Audigy Medical and Stratus Dental Group. Even if you’re unsure about your bigger purpose in life you can still work toward it by following these steps.
I knew that I wanted to have a bigger purpose. I wanted to own a business one day. I wanted to be like the family I had watched start something from nothing and grow it.
My father had always been entrepreneurial out of necessity, because he put all of us boys through private school working at a job not making enough money to do that. So he had to start other businesses outside of his normal job in order to fund being able to put all of us kids through private school. Watching my mother and my stepfather build a business from scratch. So I always knew that one day, I wanted to have a life through leveraging something beyond myself.
So the question is, how do people that get into a new career– they’re not quite sure what their bigger purpose is. I don’t think people need to know what their bigger purpose is day one. But what they need to know are what are the characteristics that would allow them to attain a bigger purpose at some point in time.
Just because I don’t know what I want to be or what that picture looks like five years, 10 years, 20 years, what I can tell you is that every single thing I do starting right now will either put me in play for a bigger picture or take me away from it. So my first job– if I treat it half-assed, if I don’t be intentional about showing up on time, if I don’t connect with the other employees in a way that’s respectful, if I don’t ingratiate myself to leadership and demonstrate an attitude of growth, if I don’t do things in the evenings to further my skill set– if I just show up, do my job, and leave– those are attributes that I start training myself day one.
Well, all I need to know is I want to have a bigger purpose at some point in time. And then I need to agree to train myself to put myself in place so when I know what that is, I’m best to succeed at it.
